What Steps to Follow After Passing FMGE 2019?

Once a medical student completes his/her graduation in medicine from a foreign medical university, they are required to clear the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduates Examination), also known as the MCI Exam / MCI Screening Test. Passing the FMGE is mandatory to acquire a medical practitioner's license in India.

As mentioned in previous posts, the FMGE is conducted by the National Board of Examinations. It is a bi-annual exam that takes place in June and December every year. While some students crack the exam in one attempt, many opt for MCI Exam coaching to get a clear understanding of the exam and its syllabus. 

This year the December session of the examination will be held on December 20, 2019. 

What after FMGE 2019?

•  Passing the MCI Exam is only a part of the battle and there is a lot more that needs to be accomplished in order to become a professional Doctor in India. After passing the exam, candidates are required to apply for an internship in an Indian Medical College for a period of one year. 

The result declaration date for FMGE December 2019 has been set tentatively as January 20, 2020. 

#Step 1 after FMGE 2019

•  Once the candidate receives the qualifying certificate from National Board of Examinations, it must be used to apply for temporary registration with the Medical Council of India. The registration can be applied for online through the official website following which the candidate would receive an acknowledge number which can be used for tracking the application status.

• The next step would require the candidate to register with the concerned State Medical Council. For the State Medical Council Registration, the candidate would be required to submit the following -

• Before starting the internship, the candidate must secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) by submitting all the above-mentioned documents along with the Sealed Acknowledgement from the State Medical Council. The NOC can be applied for by sending all documents along with a letter address to the DME specifying the details of the course completed, educational institution, and choice of institute for internship.

#Step 4 after FMGE 2019

• Based on the NOC from DME, the candidate must then apply for an NOC from the Superintendent of the concerned hospital, the Principal of the MBBS institution, and the Registrar of the University for pursuing the internship at the concerned hospital.

#Step 5 after FMGE 2019

•  The final order to start the internship at the concerned hospital can then be applied for by submitting all the letters along with a Demand Draft in favour of the University.

#Step 6 after FMGE 2019

•  With the final order, 3 fresh Demand Drafts, and all relevant documents, the candidate can finally apply for internship at the MCI recognized hospital.
